Cox 2020-2021 Presentation

Welcome to Physical Science!

I am so excited that Lakeside Middle is now offering Physical Science for high school credit to all eighth grade students! This is a wonderful opportunity to reduce the amount of science classes you will need to take in high school from four classes to three classes, and put you a head before you even start high school. With that being said, you want to make sure you work hard and make the highest grade possible to help keep your high school GPA where you want it. My goal is to help you achieve your best grade, and I promise to work as hard as you do to help you.

Physical Science is broken into two parts: chemistry and physics. We will focus on chemistry first semester, and then move on to physics during second semester. Both parts will require you to study on a daily basis. I cannot emphasize enough that this science is not going to be like your previous science classes. One, because it moves at a much faster pace than regular middle school classes. And two, there is A LOT of information that we will cover this year. You have to take an End of Course test at the end of the year, so we have to make sure we get through everything required of us. It is not impossible, though, as long as you keep up, ask questions, and put in effort. Many students do really well, and others who normally do not care for science, sometimes find that they really like physical science. It is my hope that you will enjoy science this year...if not, at least pretend like you do!!

See below for further information about the course. The course syllabus goes into a little more detail with the grading policy for science this year, and other information that may be helpful. You can also find the Google Classroom codes for your class, along with the code to join our class Remind for updates that I will occasionally send out. It is very important to be signed up for both Google Classroom and Remind as soon as possible. Parents are highly encouraged to join Remind, and access their student's Google Classroom periodically to monitor progress. Grades will be updated in Infinite Campus at least every Sunday, if not before.

The best way to get in touch with me is through my email: amy.cox@ccboe.net

Let's have the best year yet! :)

About me

I have been teaching 8th grade Physical Science at Lakeside Middle School since 2007. That means I am starting on my 15th year here at LMS...WOW! I have been a Panther since my freshman year of high school...the very first year Lakeside High School opened. I'll let you do the math on that! There is no place I would rather be than here at LMS. I am very proud of our school and what it means to be a Panther!

After graduating from LHS, I received my Bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. I also have a Master's degree in science and technology, and at some point in the near future plan on gaining my Specialist degree as well.

I am the proud mother of three great children...an ICU nurse who just started the anesthesia program at Augusta University this year, a surgical technician in the Air Force, and a freshman in college. I can proudly say all three of them are Panthers, too! I also have three additional babies with paws that I love: Moose, my chocolate Lab; Chance, my rescue baby; and Wishbone, my mostly invisible cat that loves to use my door frames as scratching posts. All of my previous students can tell you that I am not shy about bringing up all of my furbabies' shenanigans...they give me a lot to complain about sometimes, but I love them anyway!

I am really excited and looking forward to my first grand baby this October...I know, I look way too young to be a grandmother, right?!? (Big LOL!!) Rory Benjamin is due October 20th, and I can't wait to meet him!

The last thing I would like to mention is that I absolutely LOVE my job. Even on the hardest days when nothing seems to be going right, I never want to be anything other than a teacher. I am blessed every year to get to know so many wonderful students, and to be a part of their lives, even if it is for such a short time.

I am looking forward to having an awesome year of learning and growing!
